Arsenal has shown strong interest in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich on a free transfer, according to reports from Germany.
Kimmich is approaching the end of his current contract and was reportedly close to signing an extension that would keep him in Munich until 2028. However, that offer was withdrawn this week.
Bayern is disappointed by Kimmich’s hesitation to renew and has now asked the 30-year-old to make a final decision and declare whether he wants to stay or continue negotiations.
Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester City have long been linked with Kimmich, but Sky Germany reports that Arsenal is now one of the main contenders for his signature.
Arsenal’s interest in Kimmich is described as “concrete,” and talks have taken place in recent days. The Gunners are preparing for a potential summer departure of Jorginho and view Kimmich as the ideal replacement for the Italian midfielder.
Kimmich has received two written offers from clubs outside Germany and has confirmed to Bayern that he is currently reviewing his options. It’s not known whether one of those offers is from Arsenal, but reports suggest that neither Barcelona, Inter, Real Madrid, Liverpool, nor Manchester City have yet made a formal offer.
A renewal with Bayern is still a possibility — but only if Kimmich takes the first step. Even if that happens, it is unlikely he will be able to negotiate a contract similar to the one that was previously on the table.
